How To Get Your Laptop Video Card Working Again

Video cards are absolutely crucial to the excitement of playing your favourite video games. Thry sends signals to outside monitors and process information from all that swashbuckling action emanating from video games. The last thing you want is physical damage to your laptop video card, but there are are ways of correcting system errors with the video card. Use Clean Cloth to Clean the Air  Vents
Use clean cloth to clean the the air  vents located at the bottom of the vent. The air vents helps blow in the air around the video card to prevent overheating.Then spray a little compressed air into the air vents. This should help remove any lingering dust hanging  on the video card. It should also help the video card breath in air that much easier.

Make Sure Your Laptop Monitor's Cable is Connected
Now make sure your laptop monitor's cable  is  properly connected to your video card's connection ports. If the connection is loose, you won't see the exciting action from your video games. Then Install new drivers, because if the drivers are not updated, your video card malfunctions, causing your video display to hang.

Install  Video Card Driver
Download  new video card drivers Go online  to your manufacturer's website.  Then choose "Support" "Download," and select the Operating system you're running on your laptop. Next Click on the  option indicating the laptop you're using, and then choose the "Download Driver Option." This should  install the latest video card driver on to your laptop drive.Then double-click the new driver to open its Installation Wizard software. And  then follow the series of prompts to finally install the driver on your laptop Finally restart your laptop and your video card should work like a charm.

Troubleshooting A Laptop Battery That Won't Charge

You've been using your laptop for a few yrs now when a a lot of a sudden you discover that your laptop battery no longer is able to hold a  charge anymore.  When this happens it mean your laptop battery needs  changing. But to avoid wasting money on a new laptop battery how about troubleshooting the problem first?  It can help narrow down the problem and save you the trouble of splurging on a new laptop battery. So onward to troubleshooting a laptop battery that won't charge.

Things You Will Need:
Isopropyl alcohol
Cotton schwab

Now let's dig in:

Turn Off The Laptop
Turn the off the laptop and unplug all power sources. Next take out the battery from the bottom of the laptop. Then slide or unlock the locking mechanism to unlock the battery. After unlocking the locking mechanism you then  slide the battery out of the laptop.Now plug the adapter into an electrical outlet, and then insert the opposite end of the adapter into the charging outlet on the side of the laptop. Next turn the laptop's power on, and if  the power doesnt come on, it' likely the adapter is faulty and has to be replaced.You can get a new adapter at  Amazon.com. But  If the power does  come on, it means the coast is clear.

Clean Battery Vents

Your next task is to clean the battery vents . First, turn the power off and remove all power sources.  Next take the battery out of the compartment, and  dip a cotton schwab in isopropyl alcohol. Now  dip the dampened swab on the battery compartment and contacts to remove possible dust  buildup.After removing the dust you then slide the battery back into the battery compartment.

Finally

Charge And Test Battery
It's time to charge and test the battery. First plug the power adapter into the laptop, and charge the battery for six hours. Next r emove the power adapter, and turn  the laptop on for 30 minutes. Repair A Frayed Laptop Cord

After rolling bending and puling at your laptop cord, it eventually gets frayed. This spells danger because the interior wires are exposed. Instead of purchasing a new laptop chord, how about trying to fix the laptop chord yourself? Here is how to repair a frayed laptop chord.

Things Needed For This Exercise

Painter's tape
Silicone Sealer


Now Onward:

Disconnect Laptop Cord From Laptop

Disconnect the laptop cord from the laptop and from the power source.Tape a flat surface with painter's tape.  Then protect the surface by creating a square larger than the power cord. Because  not only does the slick tape protect the surface but it also prevents the silicone sealer from adhering to the tape. Then place the laptop cord on the painter's tape, keeping the frayed section in the section of the square of tape.

Squeeze Sealant Seant From Tube

Next squeeze a bit of silicone sealant from the tube and apply it to the frayed cord. Now smooth it down using your finger or a cotton swab.  You also have the option of wearing gloves if you do not want touch the silicone with your skin.  Then add another layer of silicone to build up the area so that it evens up with the rest of the laptop cord. Finally allow the silicone to dry out.

How To Replace A Motherboard

I know it's possible to fix a motherboard but what if it can't be fixed and you have to replace the faulty motherboard with a new one? To perform this replacement, you need to thoroughly understand how the components in the laptop work. Failure to do that and you could put your laptop permanently out of commission. Make sure you back up all your personal data as well before you commence.

Here is how to replace a motherboard:

Things Needed For This Exercise:
  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Pliers
  • New motherboard
Unplug All Power Resources
Unplug all power sources to your laptop and unscrew the screws securing the laptop casing , then put the screws in a bowl so they don't get lost. Now remove all the connections to the motherboard-i.e video card, data cables for the hard drive, and adapters. If you are memory challenged, label each one of the components so you can remember exactly where they attach to your new motherboard.

 Take Out Old Motherboard
Take out the old motherboard by removing the screws and sliding it out. Be careful when sliding it out  to avoid any damage. Take out cut-outs for integrated sound or game ports and then slide the wires in.  Do this with a Phillips screwdriver or pliers Then put the new motherboard in the laptop case. Makes sure it lines up properly with the case before connecting it.  Next use the seven screws to secure the motherboard.

Attach Drivers Drives and Power Connectors
You then attach the adapters, drives, and power connectors to the motherboard. Locate where you labelled everything and install them in the same places you dislodged them previously.Finally, Put the laptop case back on and turn the power supply on.

How To Fix Ailing Memory Ports On A Laptop

Various memory  ports on a laptop such  USB drives or internal card  reader slots can stop functioning completely if for some strange reason you contrive to delete  their device drivers or install new software that conflicts with already installed drivers.  Fortunately there are several ways of troubleshooting  and repairing such a problem. Here is how to fix ailing memory ports  on a laptop.

Remove The Memory Card
Remove the memory card from a port and insert it the port of the  same laptop or a different laptop to ascertain whether it's at fault. If the port is at fault, then go ahead and open the "Start" menu on your laptop. Next click on the" My Computer" icon to see the list of devices connected to the laptop. Next insert a memory card into the port and then wait to see if the card appears in the list of devices  connected to the laptop. Next, click on the button at the top of the window called "Map Network Drive.

Select Drive Letter For Memory Port
Now select a drive letter for the memory port from the drop down menu at the center of the window and then click Ok.   Now remove the memory  card and insert it back into the memory port and attempt to use it again. Now close the "My Computer: window and open the 'Control Panel" entry in the "Start" menu.  Now double click on the"Device Manager" icon. Scroll through the entries of the  Device Manager and locate the faulty port.  Right click the name of the driver and choose the"Update Driver" option. Next click on OK and wait for the latest port driver to download to your laptop  Then remove and reinsert the memory card to try to use it again.

Now right click on the name of the downloaded device and choose"properties."  Now move on the tab labelled"Power Management"  and locate the checkbox marked"Let the computer turn off the device to conserve energy." Now  click on the box to remove the checkmark. Click on Ok and attempt to use the memory card again. Remove the card if it's still not working. Now right click the  name of the port and click "Install." Wait for the software to finish installing and then click on the "Start" menu and choose "Restart."

Put Memory Card Back In Port
Then put the memory card back in the port after the computer restarts. Now click on "Next"  when a window pops up prompting you to install the software for the memory port. Next click on "Install" and wait for the port to finish installing and then attempt  to use the memory port again. Open the "Start" menu and choose the"Restart" option.   Press F1 as soon as the manufacturer's logo  shows up on the monitor. And then use the Down arrow to navigate through the menu that appears.You then highlight the Advanced feature and then press the "Enter" key.Now highlight the "USB Support" entry when a new list of options, and press the"Enter" key to enable the USB port on your  laptop's motherboard. Next press the F10  and wait for your laptop to finish booting up.

Now try using the memory card again.  Now download the USB 2,0 driver online and restart the laptop..If you're using Windows download form Microsoft's website. If you're using MAC OS, you can get the drivers at Apple's web site. Finally, Try using the memory card again on the port to ascertain whether the laptop port is true fit.

How To Get Your Laptop Inverter Board To Work

Is the LCD screen on your laptop showing signs or darkness or dimness? Chances are your laptop inverter board isn't working. The laptop inverter board is a strip found behind  the screen of the laptop. It provides power to the backlight in order to create light needed  to make   your laptop screen bright. So whenever your laptop screen has lighting problems, the laptop inverter board should be the first point of call. Let me show you how to get your laptop inverter board to work.

Things you need for this exercise
  • Phillips#2 screwdriver
  • Awl
  • Replacement laptop inverter board

Now onward to the exercise.

Turn Off The Laptop

First turn off the laptop and remove the power adapter. Remove all external devices and then flip the laptop over.Unlock and remove the battery pack from the bottom of the laptop.

Turn The Laptop Over 
Turn the laptop over again and open the monitor screen.  Now open up the keyboard edge cover just above the top row of keys using an awl  or flathead screwdriver.Then move the keyboard edge from the laptop. Now remove the rubber placer  grommets along the front edge of the screen bezel with an awl. And then loosen and remove the screws holding the screen bezel. Use the awl to remove the two pieces of the screen brezel and remove the front one.

Disconnect LCD 
Next disconnect the LCD backlight bulb from the motherbulb near the base of the LCD screen.  And then remove the screws holding the laptop inverter board. After removing the screws, you then remove the inverter board and set it aside. Next, connect the wire for the new inverterboard to the motherboard connector. After connecting both wires, connect the back side board on the right side of the new inverterNow replace the bezel and secure it with the retaining screws.  Insert the grommets and press them into place.

Finally, use the same steps you used to put it back again.

How To Fix A Laptop's LCD Cable

The laptop may be convenient because of its mobility and portability.  But it can be a hindrance. Hindrance in the sense that you can't connect a new monitor on the spot as you would  that of a desktop. If the back of your LCD cable(or liquid crystal display) fails, then  you won't be able view any images. To fix the problem, the inverter board and its LCD cable will have to be replaced. Here is how to fix a laptop's LCD cable.

Things Needed For This Exercise
Screwdriver
Inverter board

Now onward:

Purchase a New Inverter Board

First purchase a new inverter board.  Then shut down your laptop's operating system. Flip the laptop over so that the bottom of the laptop is facing. Then close the LCD screen lid. Now locate the battery release latch and then press down on it with one hand. Next  use  the other hand to pull the battery out and then set the battery aside.Now turn the  laptop back  back over and open up the LCD screen over again. S lide the screw driver underneath the seam of the  plastic bezele under the LCD screen. Gently wiggle the screwdriver up and down until the bezel pops off the case. Lift the bezel up to see if there is a cable connection to the motherboard. If there is one. disconnect it and put the bezel aside.

Locate The Rubber Stopper Pieces
Locate the rubber stopper pieces along the edges and at the top of the LCD screen.  Pop the stopper pieces off the edges by inserting a flat object underneath them and then pull them towards you.  Then use a screwdriver to pull out the screws hidden underneath the stoppers. Next pull the casing on the screen outwards towards you. Remove it completely from the laptop and then set it aside.

Locate the Inverter Board

Next locate the inverter board at the bottom of the screen. You will find the cable running from the inverter board to the motherboard. Now pull the strip of tape on the inverter board and remove the screws holding it in place, and disconnect the cable from the motherboard . Next remove the old inverter board and its cable and get rid off them, and  insert the new inverter board in its place and connect the new cable to the corresponding port on the motherboard. Reattach the LCD screen cover and re-connect the screws and the rubber stoppers.

Finally reconnect the motherboard to the plastic bezel and place the bezel back on to the laptop case Then put the battery back into the laptop and then turn the power on. Make for the manufacturer's logo to appear on the screen to confirm you' ve installed the new inverter board and cable properly.

Repairing A Laptop Battery

A while back  we touched on Replacing A Laptop Battery   . Today we're going to tackle R'epairing  A Laptop Battery'. You know the laptop battery is the equivalent of a car engine.. And just like  the car engine .It keeps the laptop going... But with time, the laptop battery weakens. the tqo hours per charge from about two years ago now  lasts only half an hour. But not to worry! It's possible to repair a dying battery. Here is how.


Things You Need For This Exercise

  • Screwdriver
  • Xacto Knife

Now onward:

Drain All The Power from the Battery 
Drain all the power from the battery and remove the battery from the laptoUse a screw drive to pry off the back of the battery pack. You should find six seperate cell batteries  covered in plastic. However, note the part number of the battery for future reference. It should be on the front of the plastic.

Order 6 Cell Batteries
Order 6 cell batteries to replace the old ones, using the model number from the battery pack. Once you've ordered the batteries, you then use an xacto knife to cut open the plastic to each cell, leaving the batteries exposed. Remove the batteries from the tray, but don't throw them away. Remove the contacts until you're left with the blank battery tray.

 Put The New Batteries In The Plastic
Now put the new batteries in the plastic belonging to the old batteries, leaving the  old batteries exposed , and the new batteries encased in the plastic. And then put the batteries into the battery case and reconnect the wires. You may have to solder the batteries in case they sustained any damage . Otherwise just position them correctly  After getting the batteries in position, put  the battery case together and insert the  battery back into the laptop. And finally charge the battery fully before using the laptop.
