Pump Up Your Laptop Memory

Okay, you've had your laptop for 5 yrs equipped with Windows XP. You've enjoyed  browsing, chatting, downloading all the mp3 files known to man, e.t.c. Then all of a sudden your laptop starts to crawl like a turtle after years of pounding from the aforementioned activities. Then some small voice whispers in your ear saying “Pump up your laptop memory.” Wanna know how? Here is how:

Find How Much Memory  Your Laptop Has
You need to find out how mcuh your laptop memory has.You can do this two ways. First check the bios of laptop. This is where the your laptop’s bootup process asks you to press the key for entering your laptop set up. Then quickly run through your memory settings to get an idea  of how much memory you’ll need to add.  However, memory settings vary from laptop to laptop.  Keep that in mind while browsing your memory settings.
Check Your Memory Control Panel

If you laptop has Windows  XP or later, click the control panel option in your 'Start Menu' and click on the control icon. Once in the control panel you’ll find information pertaining to your processor speed and the amount of memory on your hard disk.

Decide How Much Memory You Need

Then decide how much memory you need. To find how much memory you need, just open the panel underneath your laptop which has a memory module engraved on it. Once you get into the panel, check to see whether there are open slots in which to place your new RAM or whether you need to change the current memory module with a new one. If there are additional slots, just place your new RAM in the appropriate module and lower the rest of the memory module.

Choose The Right Amount of Memory for your Laptop

Next, choose the right amount of memory for your laptop. One factor you need to consider when hunting for the right amount of memory is make sure your upgrade is the  memory equivalent of one slot. Let’s say  you have one gig of memory available .  If you have a free slot available, make sure you install memory of similar amount. Another way of solving this memory dilemma is by removing the gig memory slot and replacing it with twice the original memory amount. This  way you have proper memory stability on your hard disk. So let say you already have one 1GB of memory, you need to Buy another1GB Memory Module   to make it 2GB of memory. But  a word of caution though: Instead of spending money constantly changing your memory modules why don’t you purchase as much memory as possible to save you some much needed cash?

So anytime your laptop starts crawling like a turtle it's time to "Pump Up Your Laptop Memory."
follow the above suggestions and you will do fine. So if you're a laptop owner seeking to learn how to fix your laptop, including pumping up your memory, Download Laptop Repair Videos.and The Laptop Repair Workbook: An Introduction to Troubleshooting and Repairing Laptop Computers .

Give Your Laptop Battery Some TLC

I I know we urbanites have become so attached to our laptops that they are with us wherever we go. Some of us even go to sleep with our laptops.Unfortunately, since we don't have a fixed power outlet while on the move, we're forced to use our Laptop batteries. This is where it gets real tricky because the length of time  that you spend using your laptop determines how long the laptop battery will last. So, without wasting any of your precious time I'm going to drop a few suggestions as to how to give your laptop some TLC.

Defrag Your Hard disk Regularly
For you non-techies out there, to defrag your hard disk regularly  involves chronologically ordering the data on your hard disk through the use of a defragmentor. In so doing , you increase the speed of your hard disk. The faster the hard disk , the less strain you put on your hard disk and your battery.. Looking for the perfect defragmentor? I suggest Advanced Defrag.

Don't Run Too Many Programs in the Background?
Newsflash! The ITUNES, Mp3 files, E.T.C that you play til your heat's content slow down your battery. Make sure you're not playing too many of these programs in the background while you're working. All, other non-essential programs should be shut down to give your battery a breather.

Remove External Devices
If you don't need to use external devices your WIFI and USB devices turn them off. They help drain your battery.

Pump Up The Ram
Adding more RAM to your laptop gives your laptop more to work with than virtual memory.- more so, especially when using programs which are heavy on virtual memory. Virtual memory is less power efficient and is also a drain on your hard disk  For all you non-techies out there, virtual memory is that imaginary part of your hard disk which creates alternative memory addresses on your hard disk. Programs installed on your PC use virtual memory rather than the physical addresses to store data and instructions. So Pump up the RAM.

leClean Your Battery Contacts
Clean your battery contacts  every few months with alcohol-induced cloth(not the beverage). This controls the efficiency of the the battery power transfer.

Give Your Battery a Thorough Work Out
Give your Battery  a thorough work out. Don't leave it inactive for too long. You should turn it on at least once every two to three weeks although most of you most likely use it a whole lot more than that. If you own a Li-On  battery, don't let it discharge totally. That 's meant only  for old batteries.

Don't Leave Your Battery On Standby

Next, don't leave your battery on standby.Leaving your battery on standby may  earn you energy savings but not as much as putting your battery on hibernation. Not only does hibernation add a few more years to your battery but it shuts down the battery automatically.

Optimize Your Battery Power
or Windows users, if you want to optimize your battery power  then go to 'Options and set it up. If you want optimum performance select 'max battery'.

Don't Overwork Your Laptop
There is no need to overworkyour laptop.  Instead of crunching the figures on Excel, Sending a zillion email messages, not to mention playing your MP3's, all at once, why don't you try accomplishing these tasks one by one? In so doing, you avoid sucking all the energy from your battery

So there you have it.  Help your laptop battery add a few more years to itse by following the  above suggestions. Do that and your laptop battery will have you to thank!
