My Laptop Charger Chord is Frayed.

One fine day you're about to charge your laptop when you notice your laptop charger chord is frayed. You aks yourself "This cant be. My charger  is supposed to be injury free." Well, guess what? While you were  plugging and unplugging your charger numerous times, your chord was taking a beating causing the chord to slowly wear and tear.

A frayed charger chord can be quite dangerous because not only can does it damage your your system battery, but it can also  start a fire as well.  I'm gonna  do two things. First, I'm going to show you how to fix a frayed charger chord. We're going to need a few things: silicone sealant, and painter's tape.

    Get Some Sealant

    • First get some  sealant( ointment) and insulate the charger.
    • Make sure the sealant color matches that of your charger. But it's okay to use clear sealant as well.
    • To protect the working area, spread out a strip of painter's tape on the surface with the sticky side facing down and placed the frayed part of the chord on top of the tape.
    • Next squeeze out a liberal coating of sealant on the frayed part of the charger chord and massage the sealant into place.
    • Please wear protective gloves if you have   sensitive skin.
    • Then let the sealant sit in for an hour, maybe two until it hardens. Next, remove the chord from the tape and the tape from the table and you should have a repaired charger chord looking brand new.

The Second thing I'm going to do is to show you the alternative to fixing the frayed charger chord by yourself. If you are in a hurry to buy a new laptop charger and you don't have the patience to fix the frayed charger chord yourself, try buying a new charger from the following places: AllBattery.com and  laptopsforless.com

    Laptop Shuts Down Without Warning

One fine day you're working on your Acer laptop. You have this important project that you need to finish and the deadline is fast approaching when all of a sudden the laptop shuts down without warning. You then wonder to yourself " Is it the battery? no it cant be cause I've already had it replaced recently." Fair enough. You even boot it on from Linux mint on a live USB and it still shuts down. What's the problem here? A couple of things could be causing your laptop to shut down.
    Blue Screen of Death

If you're getting the deep blue sea(or Blue Screen of death) on your screen  your laptop is telling you to take a look at your hardware components or there could be a problem with your operating system. This suggests your laptop has blue screen errors. So long as these errors persists the operating system has to shut down and reboot for it to function. You're probably asking yourself, How do I fix this Blue Screen of Death?
    >
Well, the process is a bit long. So pay attention.
First Perform a Clean Boot. You'll need a System Configuration Tool to perform this procedure
    • Click "Start" then "Run"
    • Type "MisConfig" and press 'Enter'
    • System Configuration opens
    • Under 'General Tab', select 'Startup Option'.
    • Tick the check box for ' Load Systems'  and uncheck the box for 'Load Startup items.'
    • Click'Apply' and then 'OK'
    Delete Incorrect Registry Configurations:
You need to delete incorrect registry configurations.Outdated information in your system registry also triggers the blue screen. To fix this, you'll need to download  Regicleanse or System Mechanic    and scan the entire registry. Fix all the errors and when done reboot your laptop.
Change Startup Type of Specific Drivers

Certain drivers in your Device Manager should be changed  from 'Startup' to 'Demand' here is how.
    • Click 'Start' then 'Run'
    • Type ' DevMgmt.msc' and Press 'Enter'
    • Click "View' and "Show Devices"
    • Check whether the following devices are present:
    • If they exist, click on then and select "Properties' option.
    • Click 'Driver Tab'
    • Select 'Demand' option from the 'Startup' drop down menu.
    • Click 'OK'.
    Your Laptop Overheats

Because your laptop overheats  due to long hours of use, it needs to shut down to protect itself. Also, poor ventilation can also cause your laptop to overheat. Due to the strong electrical resistance of your laptop  components, your laptop can heat up to 170 degrees. The shutdown is necessary to protect the components from melt down. < To fix the the overheating problem, stand the back of the laptop up on a laptop stand and allow the air to flow under the laptop and around the batter. It should do enough to cool the laptop down. If you don't have a laptop stand, I suggest you purchase an adjustable  laptop stand.  to keep your laptop cool.

    Automatically Shut Down
your laptop shuts down because you have configured it to automatically shut down  shut down in your default settings to conserve battery energy. This happens after several hours of inactivity. To avoid this inconvenience, check your power settings in control panel under "Hardware and Sound" and  remove this setting.

So there you have it.  follow these suggestions and you can prevent the scenario where your laptop shuts down without warning.

    No Operating System Found

So far your Fujitsu laptop is  playing great. It's functioning at the right speed and you're enjoying it to the max. So far so good. Until one fine day you turn the laptop on  only to see this scary message on your screen "NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND!"  You're like! "I've only been using this laptop for three years. This cant be happening." So you check your bios, and much to your horror, there is no hard disk.(BP starts rising). Not only is there no hard disk, but you can't even turn the hard drive button on. Even worse, your IDE legacy says 'Disabled. You start wondering "Is my hard drive faulty?"

Let's try a few possibilities.  Assuming the bios in your laptop doesn't recognize the hard drive, either the hard drive has gone kaput or there are some loose screws on the hard disk somewhere. Also this situation happens when   you accidentally knock the laptop to the ground. When that happens, the hard disk suffers considerable trauma , causing it to go kaput.

Another  scenario that could cause the hard disk to go kaput is leaving it on overnight on hibernation. Hibernation seems cool for a while. But at some point, the  laptop being all night 24/7 is bound to take its toll on  the hard disk causing it  to give in.

Now what to do in a situation like this? you could try a few things.  First, make sure the drive is properly connected. Then take the hard disk out and check the pins for damage and slide the hard disk back in...carefully of course. If the hard disk is not recognized,  you may need to fit the the disk in another laptop  by way of an external adapter to check whether the laptop works. if it doesn't work, then your hard disk has issues. You  will have to take it the technician to have it looked at. .

Another suggestion would be to to borrow a friend's laptop and go online to  download the "HDD diagnostic utility" from the website of the manufacturer of your hard disk. Then copy the program on your empty CD, and  the CD in the CD-ROM of your laptop. Then test your laptop hard disk for errors. Hope it works.

    Your Laptop is Overheating

You're working on your Toshiba laptop. You're feverishly with Photoshop,Dreamweaver, MP3,  all open at the same time. All of a sudden, your lap feels like it's into a toaster, hot and steamy. All of a sudden, you're wondering whether your body is really that combustible. No, it has nothing to do with  any mechanical activity in your body.  this means your laptop is overheating, and that it needs immediate attention.  Wanna know what causes your laptop to burn up?
    Simultaneous use of Programs
For starters, simultaneous use of programs, cause your CPU and your hard drive to work overtime. So the harder your hard drive works, the higher the likelyhood of your processor heating up.

Using your Laptop in a Hot  Environment
Using in your laptop in a hot  environemnt also contributes your laptop heating up on you. I hope none of you do this, but please if happen to be near a radiator simply because it's freezing cold and you want to keep warm don't. That could also contribute to your laptop overheating, possibly starting an inferno in your home. Try getting a centralized heating system which should help you concentrate on your work.

Make and Model of Your Laptop
The make and model of your laptop could also cause it to overheat. This happens especially when there is not enough ventilation circulating in your laptop.  It's kind like your house. If there are not enough ventiliation outlets in your house naturally, it becomes hot.

    Connecting External Hardware,
Connecting external hard ware such as dongles and external hard rives also activate the overheat alarm. I'm sure some of you are probably saying" you cant' be serious'. well, these pieces of external hardware put extra pressure on the laptop , causing it to overcompensate. Just make sure you dont use them for too long or else...

How Do I Keep My Laptop from Overheating?

Make sure you dont put your laptop on your lap. Place it instead on a cool hard surface. I know you are tempted to assume your laptop is meant for your lap,but think about it. When you put yourlaptop on your lap, you cut out  the ventilation underneath your laptop, causing it to cry for cool air.
    • Also work on one program at a time. I know you love to multi-task, but your laptop can only do so much at a time.
    • Connect external hardware only when necessary. They are meant only as emergencies not permanent solutions
    • Make sure you are as far way from a radiator/heater as possible. Get a centralized heating system.
So as you can see, laptops have their limits just like we humans. When overused, they let us know about it. So go easy on your laptop and  get a cooling pad.

My Laptop Monitor Has Gone Black!

Okay, here is the situation. You  turn on your Dell laptop,  bootable by Windows 7 , when all of a sudden, you discover that your laptop monitor has gone black. You're like 'it's bad enough that my screen turns blue, but now black? somebody tell me something I don't know!" Well, news flash! the black screen also exists just like the Black Plague several centuries ago. And  the following could be the cause of the darkness enveloping your laptop screen.

Your CD still in Your  CD-ROM

This occurs when you your CD is still in your CD-ROM. Obviously you forgot to take it out after watching your favorite movie or music video. How to resolve this problem? Just get the CD out of the CD-ROM and restart the PC.

The following, if corrupted could also cause your laptop screen to turn black. They are:

    • Master Boot Record
    • partition tables
    • Boot Sector
    • NTDLR File

To  solve this problem you need a   Windows 7 Recovery CD.

    Next:

    • Restart your laptop to safe mode

    • Press the F8 key while your laptop is starting
    • Then create windows xp boot disk to start the laptop(To learn how to create a boot disk this is the url: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305595 )
    • Next, start the laptop. If you dont get any error messages, then the cause of the black screen could be the master boot record boot sector, and the NTDLR File
    • In that case, back up all your data before  fixing the boot sector.

Now  you have verify whether the partitions that you carried out are correct.

    • ·         Click on ‘Start’ at the left bottom of your screen

    • ·         Right-Click on ‘My Computer”

    • ·         Click “Manage”

    • ·         Expand ‘”Storage”

      Pump Up Your Laptop Memory

Okay, you've had your laptop for 5 yrs equipped with Windows XP. You've enjoyed  browsing, chatting, downloading all the mp3 files known to man, e.t.c. Then all of a sudden your laptop starts to crawl like a turtle after years of pounding from the aforementioned activities. Then some small voice whispers in your ear saying “Pump up your laptop memory.” Wanna know how? Here is how:

Find How Much Memory  Your Laptop Has
You need to find out how mcuh your laptop memory has.You can do this two ways. First check the bios of laptop. This is where the your laptop’s bootup process asks you to press the key for entering your laptop set up. Then quickly run through your memory settings to get an idea  of how much memory you’ll need to add.  However, memory settings vary from laptop to laptop.  Keep that in mind while browsing your memory settings.
      Check Your Memory Control Panel

If you laptop has Windows  XP or later, click the control panel option in your 'Start Menu' and click on the control icon. Once in the control panel you’ll find information pertaining to your processor speed and the amount of memory on your hard disk.

Decide How Much Memory You Need

Then decide how much memory you need. To find how much memory you need, just open the panel underneath your laptop which has a memory module engraved on it. Once you get into the panel, check to see whether there are open slots in which to place your new RAM or whether you need to change the current memory module with a new one. If there are additional slots, just place your new RAM in the appropriate module and lower the rest of the memory module.

Choose The Right Amount of Memory for your Laptop

Next, choose the right amount of memory for your laptop. One factor you need to consider when hunting for the right amount of memory is make sure your upgrade is the  memory equivalent of one slot. Let’s say  you have one gig of memory available .  If you have a free slot available, make sure you install memory of similar amount. Another way of solving this memory dilemma is by removing the gig memory slot and replacing it with twice the original memory amount. This  way you have proper memory stability on your hard disk. So let say you already have one 1GB of memory, you need to Buy another1GB Memory Module   to make it 2GB of memory. But  a word of caution though: Instead of spending money constantly changing your memory modules why don’t you purchase as much memory as possible to save you some much needed cash?

So anytime your laptop starts crawling like a turtle it's time to "Pump Up Your Laptop Memory."
follow the above suggestions and you will do fine. So if you're a laptop owner seeking to learn how to fix your laptop, including pumping up your memory, Download Laptop Repair Videos.and The Laptop Repair Workbook: An Introduction to Troubleshooting and Repairing Laptop Computers .

Give Your Laptop Battery Some TLC

I I know we urbanites have become so attached to our laptops that they are with us wherever we go. Some of us even go to sleep with our laptops.Unfortunately, since we don't have a fixed power outlet while on the move, we're forced to use our Laptop batteries. This is where it gets real tricky because the length of time  that you spend using your laptop determines how long the laptop battery will last. So, without wasting any of your precious time I'm going to drop a few suggestions as to how to give your laptop some TLC.

      Defrag Your Hard disk Regularly
For you non-techies out there, to defrag your hard disk regularly  involves chronologically ordering the data on your hard disk through the use of a defragmentor. In so doing , you increase the speed of your hard disk. The faster the hard disk , the less strain you put on your hard disk and your battery.. Looking for the perfect defragmentor? I suggest Advanced Defrag.

Don't Run Too Many Programs in the Background?
Newsflash! The ITUNES, Mp3 files, E.T.C that you play til your heat's content slow down your battery. Make sure you're not playing too many of these programs in the background while you're working. All, other non-essential programs should be shut down to give your battery a breather.

      Remove External Devices
If you don't need to use external devices your WIFI and USB devices turn them off. They help drain your battery.

      Pump Up The Ram
Adding more RAM to your laptop gives your laptop more to work with than virtual memory.- more so, especially when using programs which are heavy on virtual memory. Virtual memory is less power efficient and is also a drain on your hard disk  For all you non-techies out there, virtual memory is that imaginary part of your hard disk which creates alternative memory addresses on your hard disk. Programs installed on your PC use virtual memory rather than the physical addresses to store data and instructions. So Pump up the RAM.

      leClean Your Battery Contacts
Clean your battery contacts  every few months with alcohol-induced cloth(not the beverage). This controls the efficiency of the the battery power transfer.

Give Your Battery a Thorough Work Out
Give your Battery  a thorough work out. Don't leave it inactive for too long. You should turn it on at least once every two to three weeks although most of you most likely use it a whole lot more than that. If you own a Li-On  battery, don't let it discharge totally. That 's meant only  for old batteries.

Don't Leave Your Battery On Standby

Next, don't leave your battery on standby.Leaving your battery on standby may  earn you energy savings but not as much as putting your battery on hibernation. Not only does hibernation add a few more years to your battery but it shuts down the battery automatically.

      Optimize Your Battery Power
or Windows users, if you want to optimize your battery power  then go to 'Options and set it up. If you want optimum performance select 'max battery'.

      Don't Overwork Your Laptop
There is no need to overworkyour laptop.  Instead of crunching the figures on Excel, Sending a zillion email messages, not to mention playing your MP3's, all at once, why don't you try accomplishing these tasks one by one? In so doing, you avoid sucking all the energy from your battery

So there you have it.  Help your laptop battery add a few more years to itse by following the  above suggestions. Do that and your laptop battery will have you to thank!
