My USB Ports Dont Work...How Do I Fix Them?

One fine day you decide to test all your laptop USB ports, having abused them with your digital cameras, printers bluetooth sets, etc. After putting them one after the other you realise that they longer function. You then say to yourself"Oh Oh! My USB ports don't work. What's going on here?"And How Do I fix Them Well, it could be one or two things. Either some software on your operating system has malfunctioned or some hardware failure that could affect the motherboard which could also mean  replacing the entire motherboard. Not to worry I am going to show you how to fix a USB . The only tool you will need here is a  screw driver.
Click on the Start Button
  • Click on the 'Start' Button at the bottom of the desktop screen and choose the 'Control Panel Option.
  • Scroll through the list of menu options in the 'Control Panel' and double click on the 'Device Manager ' icon.
  • Your operating system should then ask you  to confirm whether you want to continue. Click on the 'Continue' button.
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the 'Device Manager' window where you will find find the menu heading labelled as 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers'
  • Click on the plus sign to expand the menu. Then Right-click on the first entry  and choose the 'Uninstall' option.
  • Repeat the same process for the remaining USB controllers.
  • Restart the laptop and wait fro a new window to pop up prompting  you to reinstall the USB   Controllers.
  • Try using the USB port again and see if it works.
  • If the usb port still doesn't work you will have to order a new Laptop Motherboard
Flip The Laptop Over
  • Having discovered that your USB port doesn't work, you then flip the laptop over.
  • Press down the release latch for the battery and then slide the battery out of the case
  • Remove all the screws on the bottom side of the case.
  • Remove plastic cover in the middle of the case
Pull Out the Ram Modules
  • You then pull out the RAM modules which are connected to the motherboard.
Turn The Laptop over and Open the Lid
  • Turn the laptop over and open the lid

Remove The Plastic Bezel

  • Remove the plastic bezel above the keyboard off of the laptop case with the edge of the screwdriver.
  • Lift the keyboard off of the case and unplug the cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard.
  • Remove Heat Sink and Processor directly off motherboard.  Here the processor is located under the heat sink.

Disconnect  theWireless Network Card And Graphics Adapter

  • Disconnect the wireless card and graphics adapter
  • Pull off the remaining screws holding the motherboard to the case
  • Lift the old motherboard out of the case
  • Put in the new motherboard and re-connect the network card, graphics adapter, processor, heat sink, keyboard and plastic bezel.
  • Flip the laptop over and reconnect the RAM Modules.
Reattach the modules and pop the battery back into the case

    Turn Laptop Back On

Now turn the laptop back on and wait fort the operating system to finish loading to make sure the motherboard was turned on properly.  Attach your USB device to the USB port to make sure the USB port is functioning properly. Hopefully everything works out this time.

So As you can see fixing a USB port is quite involving but also exciting. So anytime you find yourself saying  'My USB ports Don't Work! What Do I Do? And How Do I Fix Them?" Just give them a fix and everything will work out fine.
