Repair A Frayed Laptop Cord

After rolling bending and puling at your laptop cord, it eventually gets frayed. This spells danger because the interior wires are exposed. Instead of purchasing a new laptop chord, how about trying to fix the laptop chord yourself? Here is how to repair a frayed laptop chord.

Things Needed For This Exercise

Painter's tape
Silicone Sealer


Now Onward:

Disconnect Laptop Cord From Laptop

Disconnect the laptop cord from the laptop and from the power source.Tape a flat surface with painter's tape.  Then protect the surface by creating a square larger than the power cord. Because  not only does the slick tape protect the surface but it also prevents the silicone sealer from adhering to the tape. Then place the laptop cord on the painter's tape, keeping the frayed section in the section of the square of tape.

Squeeze Sealant Seant From Tube

Next squeeze a bit of silicone sealant from the tube and apply it to the frayed cord. Now smooth it down using your finger or a cotton swab.  You also have the option of wearing gloves if you do not want touch the silicone with your skin.  Then add another layer of silicone to build up the area so that it evens up with the rest of the laptop cord. Finally allow the silicone to dry out.
