Repairing A Laptop TouchPad.

Happy New Year Everybody! Today we 're going to touch on  "Repairing a Laptop Pad". In case you don't know the laptop touchpad comes with a software driver  which helps it to respond to stimuli from your fingers. The touchpad is also connected to the Personal System/2 port (or PS/2 port).  However just like any other laptop component it's susceptible to breaking down. Here is what to do when that happens!

Connect  an external mouse to your laptop.
Click "Start" at the bottom left of the screen. Next Click "Control Panel" and then "Hardware and Sound." Input your administrative particulars and then press "Enter." Next expand "Mice and other Pointing Devices" Then Check " Device Status" field to ascertain the status of  the Device Driver. If you get an error message in the  Device Status" field follow the instructions on the "General' tab to repair the driver. If your Device Status Field flashes a message saying that it's working properly you  can close the "Device

Now Click "Mouse" in the Control Panel. Check all options to make sure they are not interf
ering with the performance of the mouse. This is crucial  because switching the configuration on your touchpad can cause the buttons to switch. It  can also cause the sensitivity on your touchpad to go down when moving your fingers across the surface.

Click "OK" to save any changes in the  "Mouse Properties"  If the changes fail to repair the touchpad, shut down the laptop.

Disconnect the AC adaptor from the laptop
First disconnect the AC adaptor from the laptop. Then   look out for food particles or dirt in between  the left and right mouse buttons. Then then use a can of  compressor air to spray in between the cracks to remove traces of debris.

Now clean the surface of the touchpad with  Antistatic Cloth removing all dirt form the pointing device. Then dry the touchpad with lint-free cloth and then turn on the touchpad to see whether it's working. If the touchpad is still malfunctioning, shut down the laptop again.

  • This time disconnect the battery and remove it from its bottom compartment. Loosen the hard drive screws and slide the drive out of the laptop.  Next insert a flathead screw beneath the center of the control cover above the keyboard.. Now wedge the cover of the laptop and then loosen the screws connecting the laptop to the keyboard.  Once you're through separating the keyboard from the laptop, lift the keyboard from the laptop.

  • Unlock the Keyboard cable From the Motherboard

Now unlock the keyboard cable from the motherboard. Next loosen the screws along where you rest your palm on the touchpad, and then wedge the tip of the screwdriver   beneath the palm rest to wedge it from the notebook base. If the touchpad/motherboard connection is still secure then you may need  to replace the touchpad.

Next time we'll touch on how to replace the touchpad

    cheers!
