Shut Down Your Laptop

Shut down your laptop and disconnect all cables and external devices from the laptop. Then Remove the battery from the bottom of the laptop.  Also You will need to wear Antistatic Wrist Strap  to avoid electrocution.

        

Open The Display Panel

Open the display panel completely and place the screen at an angle of 180 degrees. Now use  a screw driver to remove the rubber screw covers from the display panel's front cover. The front cover protects the front of the screen. Next remove all screws of the rubber screw covers and remove the front cover from the display assembly. After removing the screws you use a flathead screwdriver to separate the front cover from the display assembly. After performing the separation,  remove all Phillips screws from both sides of the LCD screen. Take  hold of the top of the screen, tilt it forward and then disconnect  the video ribbon cables from the back of the screen.

Locate Inverter Board 

Now locate the inverter board  which is usually on the backside of the screen or the front bottom edge of the screen.  You then remove all materials that hold the inverter board to the screen. They are usually a few Phillips screws or some adhesive tape. Next disconnect the cables holding the inverter board at both ends and then set the inverter board aside.

Now do this procedure in reverse and install the new inverter board .

How To Fix The Backlight Of Your LCD Monitor

Fixing the backlight of your laptop is a very delicate job.  You need to know what you are doing because the back light is located in the LCD screen. Even experienced technicians have suffered hair-raising days with this exercise. The slightest slip up and your LCD is history. And  Of course you will have to get a new one.  To avoid having that calamity, here is how to fix the backlight of your LCD monitor.

Remove The Laptop Battery

  Flip the laptop and remove the battery from its case. Next open the laptop to view the screen. After opening the laptop , remove the front bezel by taking off the rubber stoppers around the LCD screw and then remove the screws under the rubber stoppersNow Remove the screws holding the front bezel and then take the bezel off. After removing the bezel screws,  go ahead and remove screws holding the LCD screen and gently pull away the screen, disconnecting any cabling. Then disconnect the LCD from its casing, and remove the sticky tape.

Remove the Circuit Board

Gently remove the circuit board. But please, please, Try as much as possible not to bend the board or you will have to get a new one.  You can get a new circuit board at CompUSA.com ,   You then remove the screen's metal frame  by unlocking the LCD screen's latches with a small screw driver. After setting aside the LCD screen, its metal frame, and circuit board,look for the transparent layers inside the screen base an remove them from there. But leave them intact. Next remove the metal cover from the back light. Then unattach the cables from their hooks.

Now here comes the most challenging step:Remove the backyard lamp and the reflector.... The trick here is you need to remove them as one unit and then separate them. Then access the backlight lamp from the separated backlight lamp. Now remove the rubber caps and insulator,  And then use  Soldering Iron to unsolder the cables from the damaged backlight . After soldering the cables,  solder the new LCD backlight   to the cables.  Now reassemble the LCD screen. Simply do the reverse of the previous disassembly. As you reassemble the LCD screen, use compressed air to blow out any dust you find in any of the parts.

What To Do When Your Laptop Power Fails.

One fine day you turn your laptop because you have a tight deadline then the unthinkable happens. You hit the power button and your laptop says "Not Today!" And you are like"This can't be happening I've got a deadline to make in the next three hours." Unfortunately in these situations, it could be anything from a dead battery to a loose AC adapter.  Other malfunctions such as low brightness levels and LCD display malfunctions may  appear to look like power failure. Here is what to do when your laptop power fails.

Check Whether your Laptop Battery Is On

Check whether your battery indicator is on. If it is, then check the brightness settings of your monitor. if the monitor looks like it's off,  then the problem is from the low settings which makes the monitor look like that. In that case, you increase the brightness settings.

Make Sure Your AC Adapter is Plugged Firmly

Check The Condition of your Laptop Battery

Turn the  Power off and then Flip the Laptop Over

To replace the battery, first, turn the  power off and then flip the laptop over.  The battery is located further back at the bottom. Remove any screws with a screw driver and pop off the cover and pop off the battery cover. Then Take the old battery out and slide the old battery in until it clicks.  And finally  replace the cover.

 Check to See Whether your LCD is Working

Then check to see whether your LCD is working. Start by plugging your laptop to an external monitor using a VGA cable. if the laptop power is on, but  the screen is still blank, it's time for it to replace it. Get a new monitor at CompUSA.com , and The TheNerds.net. 

To replace your LCD, start by removing the screws  around the the monitor's bezel with a Phillip's screw driver. Then slowly remove the bezel .Locate the screws on the metal beneath the metal and on either side of the LCD and pull them out as well.Then disconnect the inverter cable from the inverter.(you can find the inverter beneath the display at the bottom center of the laptop). Slide out the old display and replace it with the new one. Screw back the metal screws, reconnect the inverter cable, pop the bezel back in place and tighten the screws.

My USB Port Has Stopped Working.

You are working on your laptop when all of a sudden you yell out saying. "MY USB PORT HAS STOPPED FUNCTIONING! When that happens, it's  either a software glitch, or a hardware failure which  which may require changing the motherboard. For those who don't  know, USB ports  help in your laptop's functionality by allowing you to connect to peripheral devices such as printers and external hard drives. Let's try fixing  your USB port.

Click on "Start" 

Click on "Start" and choose the "Control Panel Option."Next Scroll through the menu and click"Device Manager."When your operating system pops a question asking you to  continue click "Continue." Snf then scroll down to the bottom of the "Device Manager" window and locate"Universal Serial Bus Controllers." Next Right click on the first entry and click "Uninstall." Repeat the process for all the USB controllers.

Restart The Laptop

Restart the laptop and wait for a window prompting you to reinstall the USB controllers. Next,  click "Install" and wait for your operating system to finish installing he drivers for the USB ports. Try using the port again.  If the USB port is still not working, it  suggests motherboard failure, meaning you  have to order a new one. You can purchase a new motherboard at the following retailers: CompUSA.com, Compuvest.com, and  TheNerds.netAfter ordering  your new motherboard, turn the power off. and flip the laptop over. After flipping the laptop over,  press down the release latch of the battery and slide the battery out of the case.

Remove all the screws on the bottom side of the case. Remove all the screws on the bottom side of the case. Then remove the plastic cover covering the middle of the case and then pull the RAM modules located underneath the case and connected to the motherboard. Next, turn the laptop over and open the lid. Pop the plastic bezel off the keyboard with the edge of the screw driver. Lift the keyboard off the case and unplug the cable running from the keyboard to the old motherboard.Now Pull out the screws holding the heat sink to the processor at the right side of the old motherboard.

Disconnect the Wireless Network Card

Disconnect the wireless network card and the graphics adapter. Then pull off the remaining screws holding the motherboard to the case. Now lift the old motherboard out of the case. Insert the new motherboard in and re-connect the network card, processor, graphics adapter, heatsink, keyboard and plastic bezel. Then flip the unit over and connect the RAM modules. Reattach the screws and  reinsert the battery into the case

Turn the power back on and let your operating system finish loading to make sure your new motherboard is functioning properly. Attach the USB device to the USB port  and try using it again. Hopefully the port will work this time.

Things To Look Out For When Troubleshooting a Toshiba Laptop

Switch on both the laptop and the monitor to see whether the monitor display works. if the monitor works  then it means the makeup of your monitor is faulty and should be replaced.Assuming all the above problems don't exist, the next probable cause is your hard drive. In that case,  get it replaced and make sure it is the right size.Once you've purchased the hard disk go and unscrew the screws at the bottom of your laptop, take out the old hard drive and insert the new one. Make sure you refer to your manual while fixing the hard disk.

How To Swap a Dead Laptop Battery For a New Laptop Battery

Now we all love our laptops to death. I know I do! I  can work at home with it, and if I want to, I could work on the beach with it.  Left to you alone, some of you wouldnt mind working in a cave with it..(Let's hope it doesn't come to that).  The bad news is that with time your laptop battery loses its charge.  If you want your laptop to last stay close to the wall outlets. But not to worry, even if your battery goes dead you can swap for a new one. Here is how to swap a dead laptop battery for a new laptop battery.

• First, buy a new laptop battery.
• After  accomplishing this task, turn your focus on your laptop. First flip your laptop over abd locate the battery compartment.  Release the latch and take out the old battery.  
• To install the new laptop battery , align its receptor pins with those of the battery compartment.  Push down the opposite end of the   to snap in place.
• Tighten the latch by sliding it to its original position.
• Plug the laptop to charge the new battery  . It should take 24 hrs to charge  the battery.  But subsequent charges  should take abt 30 minutes.

How To Swap An Old Video Card For A New One.

Now we all like the  nice sound effects emanating from your laptop when you turn your laptop on...Those sound effects are courtesy of the video card or graphics card. However, one day you turn your your laptop on and, although the battery indicator is on, your screen is blank. Then  a small voice  whispers in your ear saying"It's your video card. You need to change it." So now that we know the cause of your bank screen, here is how to swap an old video card for a new video card.

• Buy a new video card.  
• Uninstall the current video drivers, Click on "My Computer", Select "Properties, click"Hardware" and click "Device Manager"
•  Go t the "Display Adapter section" and double click on your current video card.
• When the "Properties section shows up,  select the "Driver" tab and click "Uninstall."
• Now this next section is going to be tricky as you do not want be electrocuted. I suggest you wear an antistatic wrist strap.
• Now that we've got that covered, go ahead and physically remove the old video card
• Turn Off Your PC and disconnect the power supply
• Open the CPU case and locate the AGP slot of your motherboard just above the PCI slot.
• Now use a screw driver to unscrew the video card from the back plate and take it. out.
• Now insert the new video card firmly and completely Screw it to the back plate
• Next, install the new drivers. Your Windows operating system should guide you through the process
• For those with non-windows operating systems, click on "Start Menu and open the the Control Panel.
• Click on "Add/Remove Hardware" to activate the installation wizard.
