How To Drain Your Water Induced Laptop

If water ever floods your laptop, start panicking. The presence of water or any kind of moisture  could render your laptop useless. If you are crazy enough to attempt to  use your laptop with water still flooded in it, you could do serious damage to your battery and damage your laptop's electronics. Not to mention the fact that you could overload your wall socket and possibly blow up your house lights. But not worry! Here is how to drain your water induced laptop.

Unplug Your Laptop
Unplug Your laptop from the mains IMMEDIATELY.  Remove the battery from the bottom of your laptop. How do you do this? First hold down the release tab next to the battery pack and free the pack from the laptop. Be careful about this as you do not want to be electrocuted. As you know, water and electricity don't mix.Next, open the laptop. To do that first, unscrew the screws holding the laptop at the bottom. Then remove the screws holding the laptop screen . These screws are located a the rear end of the laptop, next to the power outlet.

Remove the Hard Drive

Now remove the hard drive from its slot by unscrewing the screws holding both corners of the drive and then release it from the laptop. (Keep a mental note of how you took ithe hard drive out out because if you put it back wrongly, your laptop won't work.) Check the hard drive for moisture..If there is any present,  use a towel to press on it.  Do not wipe the hard drive as you will end up moving the moisture around. If there is any additional moisture, use a blow dryer to remove it.

Next, separate  the laptop screen from the laptop body by gently pulling the screen until the two silver pegs holding the screen have been removed from their slots.(Do not remove the two wires leading from the screen to the motherboard.) Then separate the two parts of the plastic body to gain access to the internal components.

Unscrew the Metal Plate
Unscrew the metal plate covering the motherboard and set it aside. If your memory doesn't serve you that well, take pictures of the inside of the laptop so that you have a frame of reference when reinstalling all the components. You can start by taking an overall picture of the inside of the laptop and then closeup pictures of the individual components.Disconnect the components one at a time and dry them out the same way you did  the hard drive. Once the components  dry out, sit them  outside to for the air to dry them out as well.

Finally, reinstall the components in the order that you removed them.(If you are having difficulty committing the order of the components to memory,refer to the pictures to help you reinstall everything correctly).Reinsert the battery pack and turn the laptop back on.Fingers crossed, So long as you haven't permanently damaged anything, your laptop should be up and running.

Time To Change Your Your Old Hard Drive

After four exciting years, your laptop hard disk says "Time To Change Your Old Hard Drive. Get  me out of my misery!" Meaning it's time to get a new one. Ask most people and they'd tell you that installing a hard drive is usually a painless exercise depending on how your laptop is configured.   If you have a bad hard drive, or need more storage space, you'd do well to learn how to upgrade your laptop hardware. Let Me Show You How To Replace Your Old Hard Drive

• First, get a new hard drive . Make sure your new hard drive is similar to the old one.
• Next, open the laptop case.Open both sides of the laptop by removing the screws at the back of the tower and then slide the panels off. If your laptop is screwless, there should be  a latch or button that releases the panes. Find the said latch/button and release the panels.
• After taking your panels, locate your old hard drive. For you newbies, your hard drive is locked in a cage inside the the casing.  Find the data and power connectors and then disconnect them
• Remove the screws holding the hard drive. The screws usually hold both sides of the hard drive. 
• After removing the screws, you then slowly remove the hard drive from the cage.
• After removing the old hard drive, install the new hard drive. . The new hard drive should be placed in the same position as the old hard drive. Carefully screw the drive in and reconnect the data and power connectors.
• To replace your primary hard drive, you'll need to reinstall your software or use recovery disks to recover your data. If you don't have a recovery disk, you may have to reinstall your operating system.
• To replace your secondary drive, you will need to reload software that you installed on drive or re-copy files from your backup drive

You've been using your laptop for quite a while when all of a sudden it starts crawling like a tortoise. Your data doesn't transfer as quickly as it used to and even worse, it starts to fail. Here is how to do the test.

To Check Errors

• Click "Start" and select "Computer"
• Click The "Tools Tab" and click  the "Check Now" button under  "Error Checking" Heading.
• Now use you "check your disk" options. You'd be better off choosing the "Automatically Fix System Disk Errors' option. The other option is "Scan for For and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors" but that takes much longer and is a more thorough.
• Schedule a scan on the drive you you want to check for errors.  The Check Disk utility only scans when the disk is not in use.
• Click "Start" to Begin the scan.
• With the automatic option it should fix these errors without any problems.

To Check For Hard Disk Speed

• After checking for errors, Run Your hard disk testing software to test the speed of your laptop hard disk. The test should give you the results on the speed test  including important information such as the data transfer rate. And it should help speed up your PC

How to Change Your Laptop Wireless Network Card To Keep Up With The Joneses.

• Turn your laptop off.
• Remove the old wireless network card from your card slot, following your manufacturer's manual off course. Your card slot should have a button to press and eject the card
• . Restart the laptop.
• Remove the wireless card drivers.
• Click "Start " "Run" to open a run window.
• Type "devmgmt.msc" in the "Open" text box in the Run window, then click the "OK" key. This takes you to the Device Manager Control Panel.
• Click to expand the Network Adaptors icon in the device tree.
• Click the driver icon you want to remove and click "uninstall" in the context menu.
• Follow the prompts to remove the drivers.
• Insert the installation CD for your wireless network card in  your laptop's CD drive.  The setup wizard starts automatically.
• Follow the prompts in the wizard.
• Place the new wireless card in the card slot. Depending on your manufacturer's manual, you may be prompted to insert the new wireless  card in the card slot while the wizard is running or after it finishes.
• Connect to your wireless network using the same information as with the previous wireless card to complete the process.

How To Fix The Broken Laptop Key Back On

Conventional  laptop wisdom has it that when one of your keys on your laptop fals off you need to get a  new laptop. But what if it is possible to fix the key back o life? I mean look at this way. Why would you want to shell out $10-15 for a new keyboard over one broken  key. Here is howto fix the broken laptop key back on. But First:

Things You Need For This Exercise

• Tweezers
• Superglue

Now Onward to the Exercise:

• Gather all the parts of the broken key that fell off. For those who're not sure, the keyboard key consists of the keycap, (the part that you press down) and the key retainer( two plastic keys underneath the the keycap).
• Reinstall the key retainer without the key cap.  But before you do that, make sure the key retainer is not stuck to the key cap. If it is, remove it from the key cap.
• Now use the tweezers to gently snap the key retainer back into the metal casings in the keyboard.
• Snap the keycap back on the retainer. This should snap the keycap back in place with kittle downward pressure. If the key retainer did not pop off initially thn all you have to do is snap the keycap back in place to fix the ke.

How Do I Replace My Keyboard?

You've been working on your laptop for a while now. But then suddenly the keys on your keyboard start falling off. You then say to yourself "oh oh! it's time to replace it. But how do I replace my keyboard?"  Let me show you how. But first:


Things You Need For This Exercise

• A replacement keyboard
• T-8 screw driver(star-shaped) or Phillips screw driver
• The correct RAM for your laptop
• ESD Anti Static Wrist Strap
  

Now onto the exercise:

To Remove The Old Keyboard

• Turn the laptop off. Make sure the adapter is unplugged and the battery taken out.
• Turn the laptop over.
• Remove the screws with your T-8 or Phillips screw driver
• Turn the laptop over again. Look out for plastic pieces or clamps tucked under the keyboard. If either of the two exist, remove them.
• For the plastic pieces carefully remove them with a toothpick
• If there are any screws unscrew them and remove the keyboard from top to bottom.
• You will then see a thin data cable connecting the keyboard to the system board. Take the plastic pick to connect the plastic connectors holding the data cable.
• Then carefully remove the data cable to completely release the old keyboard

To Replace The Old Keyboard

• Take out your brand new keyboard
• Slip the data cable back in between the plastic connecters on the system board. Make sure the data cableis all the way in.
• Use the plastic pick to re-insert the plastic connectors and make sure they are holding the data cable.
• Slip the new keyboard into place from bottom to top.  Make sure the screws line up at the top.
• Tighten up the new keyboard at the top
• Replace any screws that you removed. If there are plastic pieces that you removed, snap them back in.
• Now turn the laptop over and replace all keyboard screws
• Last but not least, put the batery back in, and turn on the power.
• The keyboard sould be ready to roll.

Tips:

• Each laptop model varies but the general idea is still the same
• Make sure you wear the ESD Antistatic wrist strap before you start working the laptop. The last thing you want is to be electrocuted.

How to Change Corrupted RAM in Your Laptop

You are working on your laptop one day when all of a sudden, your laptop starts beeping like crazy.  Then the proverbial  blue scree shows up on your screen and you are like  "oh oh something is wrong here.  You try to run Photoshop and all of a sudden, our laptop crashes...kaput! Do you want to know the cause of your laptop's  demise? It's your corrupt RAM. corrupted RAM causes the applications on your laptop to crawl like a tortoise.  When that happens, remove your corrupt RAM immediately or else Memory Optimizer laptop could be  seriously damaged. Here is how to change your corrupted RAM.

• Run the memory test software to determine if your RAM is really corrupt.  Download Memagent Memory Optimizer or Memory Optimizer Expert to do the memory test . These two pieces of software come highly recommended.
• If you have multiple memory sticks, you need to test them individually.
•   If you establish your RAM is really corrupt, switch off your laptop and turn off the power.
• Depending on the type of RAM on your laptop, installl either SIMM(or single-in line memory module) or DIMM(duak in-line memory module)chips. You can have either a single 1 GB chip or a pair of MB chips.
• Open up your laptop with a + screwdriver
• Check the RAM slots for dirt. If you find any clean it out before inserting the RAM chip. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the memory slots.
• Now open the RAM socket latch. The RAM  socket  latch should hold the RAM chips in place.
• Place the chip in the latch and re=clip it. If you hear a snappy sound it suggests  successful attachment.
• Next test the RAM installation. You can put the covers on but do not screw the laptop case on completely. Reconnect all your cables and turn on your laptop. Check your BIOS(Basic Input/Output System) . IF you are not sure, F2 or F8. And then check your "Control Panel, click on Sysyem and Maintenance to locate the RAM memory and make sure the  RAM you installed is reflected.
• Reboot your laptop. and  tighten all the screws. Hopefully your laptop should run with the newly installed RAM.
